Celebrating Las Fallas

A festival like none other, Fallas is a tribute to art, community, and transformation. This electrifying event combines music, creativity, and tradition to celebrate the power of fire, not only as a destructive force but as a powerful act of renewal.

From the thunderous mascletàs (daily fireworks shows) to the towering monuments, the breathtaking beauty of the Ofrenda (flower offering) to the fiery farewell of the Cremà (burning of the monuments)—every moment is a feast for the senses.

We felt awed, inspired, humbled, challenged, and, most of all, immensely grateful to witness this spectacular tradition, to feel its energy, and to be reminded that fire is not just an ending, but also a beginning.

Thank you, Valencia, for sharing your light and for welcoming us into your celebration of creativity and community. ✨🔥🧨🎇💃

P.S. Several friends have asked if we’d attend the event again. Our answer depends on the day. During Fallas, Valencia’s population doubles, which isn’t ideal for someone as crowd-averse as Shannon. A deterrent for Rhys is the overuse of firecrackers by regular folks, as many petardo stores open specifically for Fallas, selling firecrackers to anyone and everyone. They can be quite powerful and startling (imagine M-80s from the U.S. times 10). That being said, the beauty and sense of community along with the spectacle are appealing and will likely drive us to participate again next year.
