Hi! We’re Rhys and Shannon. When we met at work more than 20 years ago, we bonded over a shared love of Sunday Morning on CBS, Globetrekker on PBS, and lunchtime walks along the canal in Indy. Two decades later, we’re still working, traveling, and exploring together and are more in love than ever.
We’re in the midst of a major downsize and move from Atlanta, GA to Valencia, Spain, our fourth major move involving selling everything and moving across the country (or in this case, moving to a different country).
We love baked goods, factory tours (Louisville Slugger baseball bats in Kentucky, Jelly Belly jelly beans in California, Crayola crayons in Pennsylvania to name a few), and you-pick orchards (before they were cool).
As happy minimalists, we want to share ways to live simply, live small, and live slow. We believe change is an invitation, not something to fear.
A little backstory: This blog followed our adventures from June 2006 through June 2011. During this time, we sold most of our stuff (aside from what would fit in our 2003 Honda Civic), sold Rhys’ 2000 Jeep Wrangler to her grandfather, and drove with our cat, Kandinsky, from Indianapolis, Indiana to Portland, Oregon without jobs or a place to live. Two years later, we sold our belongings again and moved from Portland to Atlanta, Georgia, again without jobs, but thankfully landed at Rhys’ mom’s house while we looked for jobs and a place to live. Found both (at Georgia Tech and Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD)-Atlanta and purchased our first condo on THE famous Peachtree Street in midtown Atlanta.
Filling in the gap from 2011 until 2024 - we traveled to Belize, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Curacao, Bahamas, Netherlands, Korea, and Japan, plus took several road trips to Minnesota, Texas/New Mexico/Colorado, Virginia, South Carolina, Tennessee, and a recent emphasis on Florida, since we purchased a beach condo (Casa Francesca) in Laguna Beach, FL (west of Panama City Beach) in 2o18 and try to get down there as often as possible when the place isn’t rented. We’ve renovated two condos, one down to the studs in the kitchen, plus a single-family home, and we currently have three businesses and the same cars we owned when we met.
Thanks for coming along for the ride. Now buckle up, Buttercup!
